5a05 is a type of aluminum alloy that is resistant to rust and contains magnesium. Unlike other alloys, it cannot be strengthened through heat treatment. It has a higher magnesium content and lower strength, similar to the 5A03 alloy. Cold deformation can increase its strength, but decrease its ability to be molded. When in its annealed state, it is highly moldable, while in the semi cold worked hardened state, it is still reasonably moldable. This alloy is known for its good resistance to corrosion and its ability to be welded using various methods such as spot welding, atomic hydrogen welding, gas welding, and argon arc welding. However, it is difficult to machine and has poor annealing properties, although it is still acceptable in the semi cold work hardened state.
