The 5052 aluminum alloy nominally contains 2.5% magnesium, 0.25% chromium, and has good workability, moderate static strength, high fatigue strength, good weldability, and very good corrosion resistance, especially in the Marine atmosphere. It also has low density and excellent thermal conductivity similar to other aluminum alloys. Alloy 5052 can be hardened by cold working and cannot be heat treated to obtain higher strength. Magnesium is low enough not to suffer stress corrosion cracking, which can affect alloys containing more than 3.5% Mg.
